Nearly every site i go onto nowadays seems to flash up my I.P address with an advert or some other offer! Is that really safe? Lol I'm not too keen on all these 'dogey' sites being able to read my i.p address. Is there anyway i can hide it or does it not really matter. Cheers!

P.s sorry for the typo in the title >< lol

Ditch IE. Use Chrome/Firefox with Adblock.

Problem solved on the most part.

It's stupendously easy for an advert to get your IP address.

They are simply trying "scare tactics" to get you to purchase/download whatever rubbish "security" product they're trying to sell to unsuspecting victims.

And, I'm sorry, did you say adverts... on the internet? That's what Firefox + AdBlock Plus, or AdMuncher is for - to remove all this rubbish!

It's not really pop up adverts that bother me so much. More the sites that say "I.p addrees *buh buh buh* you have logged onto this site 4times today" -_- kinda like your being tracked lol

You are being tracked. Everywhere, and anywhere you go. Theres no point trying to hide it.
And theres nothing wrong with IE.

Each time you connect to a website there are probably 10 computers that see your IP address. You are at zero risk.

There's not "AIIIIIIIEEE" without IE, therefore everything is wrong with it!

Only way to stop it viewing your IP is going via a Proxy.

Adblock / Admuncher may stop the advert being displayed but the site already has your IP.

The alternative way for a site not to have your IP is disconnect from the internet and never go to the site.

Seriously there's nothing much you can do about it - perhaps stop going to sites that spam you with adverts?

You can't stop sites getting your IP without resorting to some kind of proxy or VPN service. This is the way the internet works. If a site didn't have your IP, it wouldn't know which address to send the page to. It's like expecting to receive a letter without telling the other party where you live.

Actually, Admuncher can bounce your connection off of a selection of public proxies to hide your IP as well. It's an option in the tools tab under "IP Scramble".

Whether there's actually any point/need to hiding your IP addy is another point entirely...

I'm not sure why people get concerned about their IPs being revealed.

So my current IP is 77.98.128.65. What can you tell about that??
Well, it's a Virgin IP, but I post in this forum about my 50Mb connection so nothing learnt there. It's on the Aztec UBR so I'm in Bristol, but it says that over there <----

Most IPs are not static and even when I had a /32, a /30, /29 and /27 registered to me when I was with AAISP then my registered address was not available to the public.

Worst that can happen with someone knowing your IP is that you might get a few nutters trying to be clever but a half decent firewall will stop them. Even if they had the smarts to get around a firewall they'd probably not waste their time on some random individual on the net anyway.
