Is it illegal to have external mounted cameras? For instance for country road driving to record the action :D

Also whats the best internal or external mounted camera for less than a £100?

I don't think they are illegal, unless they are sticking out loads etc.

Just grab an internal and put it in the windscreen. I'd be careful what you records though as you could incriminate yourself.

I doubt they are illegal since modern buses have them mounted on all sides.

But as Davido said, just get an internal screen-mounted one. At least you can take it out when it's not in use.

Thanks guys, i'll have a shop around. Will post back with what I find and maybe you'll know which of my choices are best.

Not illegal at all - some people shove one on the front and back of their cars to get multiple angles. If they're the size of full cinema production camera then maybe not :p

No issues afaik, i've used my gopro on various places on my car for lots and lots of miles. Did about 150 miles through Germany with it on the roof so i'm fairly sure its fine.

Just make sure you remove it before the Officer spots it while asking you how you ended up 50m from the road up a tree in a 30 limit :p

No its not so long as they're mounted safely.

Still might attract attention however and if the footage shows you hooning, obviously that would be dealt with. But I'm sure you understand those risks ;)

agree with what's been said. just be careful on how far from the car it sticks out as you don't want to clip any bushes/cars/cyclists whilst driving. may even be worth thinking about making it more visible to assist in avoidance, like long loads sticking out the back of cars are supposed to have something on then (usually a tied up florescent jacket) to help give depth perception/visibility to drivers behind.
