Is it legal to buy gold in WOW?

Its not illegal as you can't get arrested for doing so but it is against the EULA and yes you can get banned for doing it.

It's meant to be against the T&C and I suppose if you get found out you could get banned... but it's not really in their interest to find out and ban paying customers. I know plenty of people who've done it successfully several times.

You may get the Police knocking down your door. So be careful! Gordon Brown passed a law regarding in game currencies very recently, I think it was mentioned in the last budget report.

So in answer, yes its HIGHLY illegal.

Damn! Thats that plan scuppered then :p

Really dont know why people would buy wow gold, I know farming is ****, but you're already paying for the game. I managed to raid in a succesful guild without buying gold, and you need shedloads of pots/mats/etc. Would have made the shadowweave set easier I guess. I mean, I can see why people buy gold, but MMOs are enough of a money sink as it is.

Time = money.

If you have the cash to burn, you're less likely to want to waste hours amassing what can be had in a few minutes.

I used to buy gold when I first got WoW and didn't really understand how to make gold. Nowadays as I dislike gold farmers camping areas I want to quest in and spamming my mailbox with their junk mail I refuse to use them.
I would rather spend a day mining or gathering and make my gold legitimately.

I don't want to have to farm the same mobs and herbs for hours upon hours when i don't have to.

shame on your for even considering this.

my all means, go ahead and buy your gold. but the moment u do that the sense of satisfaction and achievement will be erased from your character, and the whole game will be instantly wasted

there are lots of ways to make money easier than farming trash, u just got to get creative with the market. Look what stuff you can create that's in high demand and then milk it for all its worth. For example I was an alchemist, and I could make a fortune by alchemising fire protection potions and nature potions for people hitting molten core and that other place in silithus.

Aye, shame on me :p

I only play WOW about 5-6 hours a week, its taken me 3 months to get up to level 25, I cannot afford any decent gear and have only ammased about 4 gold in that time.

It will enhance my enjoyment while i play, especially over the weekend if i have 200 gold to buy myself a couple of lovely blue swords.

It's easier to get blue's from instances than to buy them. Not to mention its more fun.

And low level blues are way way too expensive, because rich characters with low level pvp alts pay loads for these items.

I dont have time to do instances, I only play 5-6 hours per week, the longest i play at a sitting is about an hour.

Can anyone find where it states that paying other people for their time is aginst the terms of use?
When you buy gold you pay someone for their time, you dont buy the gold. That's how they get around the TOC, as it is not allowed to sell in game property since you arent the owner, Blizzard are.

So no, it's not illegal, and I havent known anyone be banned for it - I also havent yet seen any statement that blizzard have any power over it.

Thanks for encouraging the irritating gold farmer whispers.

There are plenty of gold sellers who don't use the irritating whispers. IGE as already mentioned, MySuperSales is another (who used to be owned by IGE). I'd hope no-one here would be foolish enough to use those unscrupulous companies who use the whisper-bots.
