Is it me or are the 2610 Gromacs getting harder to crunch?

Well?

Nothing has changed on my system and suddenly it's taking ages, like 3 days to crunch a 2610 WU with win SMP.

Used to be done in just under 40 hours, (about 900ppd) now it's showing as about 70 hours. (500ppd)

Has something changed? Anyone else the same?

Within each project number there are lots of different WUs.

If you look in your log you will see your project number plus some other numbers - ie

Project: 2608 (Run 0, Clone 342, Gen 19)

Every time you get a 2608 or 3610 or any WU, those three numbers will be different. So sometimes the same numbered WU can take longer.

However. Having said all that I am not sure I have come across a WU that would take nearly twice as long. Is there anything else running on your system?

Can't really comment on the SMP units, as I'm not folding them at the moment. However, I have noticed a trend in the ppd of normal WUs. My X2 3800 used to be able to get around 400-500ppd normally, nowadays I'm lucky if I get 250. At the moment I've got some 1487s (1161 pts), which are just taking forever.

2610 - oh how I .... these
600ppd, not noticed any change and I get 4 a weeks of the last few months

...thinking - have you done a windows update reciently - is a certain svchost taking a whole cpu core. If so your not alone.

disable autoupdates
reboot
go to the microsoft updates site and revert back to windows update.
job done :D

christ knows why but 50% of my cpu was taken up by iexplorer under task manager.

no idea why cause it wasn't being used or minimised etc - bugger. lost 24 hours crunching time @50% POWER!!!

Good to see you found the culprit, your average has been dropping this last few days, you'll be able to get back up to speed.:)
