or is Intel doing what they did with the P4's. Bringing out a new CPU and quickly ramping up the speeds, and before long the new tech won't be able to deliver the higher speeds that Intel want them to do. Like what happened with the Netburst architecture, Intel said it would be able to deliver 4GHz easily and look what happened.
I have just looked @ this months Custom PC mag and someone has got hold of Intel's quad core CPU release date next year, 2 me it seams like there bringing out to many new CPU's at once. With this AMD will just have to wait a bit and bring out a couple of new tech advances on a CPU like the Athlon 64's, and the Athlon 62 X2's. 1st 64 bit CPU's and 1st mainstream dualcore CPU's.

This is just my opinion on what is happening at the min

Don't think so really, they've kind of abandoned the MHz is everything (Netburst only had clockspeed as an advantage really, and even that did'nt win its battles) salestheme and have gone down the right track eventually. Intel might well have delivered 4Ghz+, am sure the architecture was capable but alas the cooling needed would prolly be outrageous. I think they're playing the game right this time.

tbh as a gamer the more the processors the more heat so quad will limit the clock more than a dual at the same speed imho

only when games benefit 2 cores at desent clocks will they benefit over single core at higher clocks.

I just swapped because I saved loads with the Asrock + 4000+ all those moons ago

I'd predict there will be a healthy number of games running 2 core enhanced by the end of 2007, not that it warrents an upgrade just yet ;)

I kinda agree that Intel is producing a lot of different CPUs now but at least they are taking a step in the right direction with the Core 2 Duo's (Conroe)., Its probably due to the fact that many manufatcurers use Intel chips in their pc's/mac's now.
