I have recently bought a PS3 to hook up to my 26 Philips HD TV, and it only has two HDMI inputs both of which are taken up by the Virgin media box and my HTPC. This meant i had to buy a component cable to connect my ps3 to my tv.

i read that the quality at 720p is just as good as HDMI but it can only do 1080i which is not as good. Seeing as though my TV only supports up to 720p i thought it would be fine, so i pruchased it and set it up.

But compared to a friends PS3 through HDMI, mine looks terrible, the screen looks washed out, and if i hold the PS button and the black screen comes up it looks fuzzy (its black but it flashes with white dots and lines).

Is this just what component is like? or have i got a rubbish component cable? if it is could someone say a good one?

What does it look like when you plug the PS3 in using HDMI? That'll give you a good idea comparing the two. Are you definitely set up at 720p on your TV correctly (i.e. is your TV telling you it's getting 720p signal?)

Component shouldn't be that rubbish I don't think. On the 360, there's not too much difference, so I don't know why it would be on the PS3 (are you using the official component cable?)

Have you tried a HDMI switch? they sell one here now. I've been using one for about 2 months and it works just as it should.
