Is it my setup or source?

In source based games like HL2, CSS etc the games seem to have fairly unidirectional sound, also you can't really tell how far something is either, all other games work fine and i might not care normally but in multiplayer using sound is quite important.

I use a pair of headphones and have everything setup correctly, it set to high and stereo headphones etc but sounds just seem to be pretty poor directionally and i was hoping theres something i could do about it.

Anyone know if its my setup or the game is just like that?

Its not a case of getting to know the maps, the sound is wrong imo so im hoping that theres something wrong somewhere, i am almost certain my setup is fine but because i can't be 100% sure i thought it was time i asked here.

It been like it from day one and i thought it was something that would get patched but nothings changed a year on.

Have you played SOF2 or similar Q3 based games?, in those i know exactly where a sound is coming from but in CSS its quite hard to tell half the time.

After playing so much 1.6, CS:S has quite bad directional sound in my opinion, you can't tell 100% some of the time where footsteps are coming from, in my experience anyway.

IMHO the sound is fine, but i play with headphones on, give that a try see if it help, makes a complete difference to the way the game sounds compared my speaker setup.

Also check that the sound options in the source games i am sure theres a setting for surround and stero sound, although i am not 100% sure but have a look.

So are you all saying the sound in CSS is clear and as directionally good as say SOF2 and other normal type FPS's?

If you are then either the sound is wrong in my game or my standards are a bit higher lol!? ;)
