is it normal for a gtx 570 to go "pop" with only 1.038 volts and temps in 70's?

so i was playing bc2 and boom, my comp shuts down with a smell, switches on again with a bios message about something to do with backups and the same thing happens, then switch on a third time but with no display, so switch to on board graphic and low and behold no gpu is found

what the ****, some people have 1.038 volts as stock and mines gone poof

thats not normal right?

No, that's not normal. I personally cant see how that voltage could have fried the card.

What is your rig spec? PSU brand? Have you checked your mobo for any damage?

No, i had mine at 1.1v 950Mhz.

I would just RMA it, don't remove anything to check you'll just end up vioding warranty.

I would do this unless you have another PC you can try the card in.

I had a similar problem when i got my 5770 gpu. playing battlefield bad company to and then bam my PC would shut it self down. come to find out my mobo was running at 1.45v default turned this down and have not had a problem since.

IMO i would try this card in another pc and if it works i would try a different card on your current motherboard as i have also had an Arock n686c that had a faulty pci-e slot from factory.

If none of the above seem to give you any result RMA is your best bet i would just try a few things as if the card is not faulty most companies will charge if you do an RMA.

i don't have another pc, got the computer as a configure your own from here, best to just ring them up tomorrow and tell them something went poof, i'd rather them take the tcomputer away to check it all over as it's only 2 weeks old, somethings gone very wrong somewhere when it smelt of burning

I've heard that the GTX 570 is prone to exploding if overclocked, but no where near as much as the 590 is.

I keep hearing that aswell, lots of Nvidia and AMD guys have been bringing it up. I assume aswell as being cut down pcb/chip the 570gtx is cheaper in power components compared to the 480/580gtx as Nvidia both need their top end cards to overclock as far as possible for reviews, things like 3dmark scores.

Thing is I barely keep track of overclocking threads past release so I really don't "know" its true, but I've rarely seen anyone claim its not true when its brought up which kind of makes me inclined to believe it.

1.038 volts isnt really that much though. Surely it would take more than that to make it pop its clogs?

yep exactly, overclockers are picking it up tomorrow, some have that as stock volts so it's a bit of a turd card really

Ye it sounds like it! I would have thought that as long as temperatures are ok, anything under 1.1V wouldnt be doing a huge amount of damage to it.

a lot of ppl have said theirs died with the limiter turned off, i didn't turn any safety features off at all, and 1.038 volts is nothing, even read that some are 1.05 stock

just reading the fiasco that is the 590 lol

it sounds like their limiters don't engage, what poor safety features for the cards
