Is it normal for Steam to delete ones games?

So I was playing Dead Island on my Mac fine last night. Today I start up Steam and it tells me a file is missing when I go to play Dead Island. So I go and have a look in the Steamapp folder and the game has gone from there too. It takes the fizz I tell you. I knew steam couldn't be trusted this is why I've only just started using it. Seems my fears of how unrealable it could be were valid.

Never heard of that before. Steam can be trusted as 99.99999% of people encounter no issues. You must have deleted it there is no other explanation. Or blame the Mac.

So it is greyed out in your games list?

Put the disc back in as I purchased it from Game. Thankfully after a few validations which didn't take to long it's working again. thank goodness

Had this happen once in the entire time I've used steam - it "lost" my Eve Online installation and wiped all the files to start a new download :(

Fortunatly only happened the once so far and I've been using steam for almost 10 years.

Can't say I've ever experienced any issues with Steam, ever - not even when it was first released (I've got a SteamID in the 400,xxx range)
