Ok guys you gotta go easy on me here ....just reciently i have started to have dizzy spells while playing games (if i stood up i would prob stagger/fall) it usually happens after 8+ hours of gaming now i have had my eyes checked out and there fine so my question is there any connection with screen size and resolution and eye strain my screen is 27" 1080.
My wife thinks i'm after a new monitor (and i prob am) would going to a higher resolution help with eye strain or have the opposite effect or am i just hiting the mmo's to hard? any and all input welcome
Thanks

8 hours straight?

Wow. Not even in my best gaming years could I manage that.

You need to spend less time on it, and must take breaks to split it.

Not sure a new monitor will do anything for you. A large monitor with low res should really allow for less eye strain than a higher res monitor.

Also, how close are you sitting to it and when gaming at night, do you have another ight source besides the monitor?

the max i'm able to game is 30 min to 45 min online & 1 hour if playing the likes of yakuza 4 (movie type games). more than 1 hour & i will start feeling tired,i don't know how people can play for many hours like him or the gamers in china.

Just out of curiosity do u go dizzy when u stand up if your not at the pc?
Say after watching tv or something?
If so its called postural hypertension caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure
which will cause you to go dizzy and stumble.

Reminds me of the Chinese or Korean chap who dropped dead while in an internet cafe. He had been gaming for hours and hours without a break.

OP, how you don't see an obvious and direct connection between sitting for hours on end and having dizzy spells is rather worrying.

You need to get out more.

Make sure the room is illuminated properly. If you're staring into something that's giving off light it takes a while for your senses to adjust when you stop doing that.

But yeah, doing it for hours straight just isn't very healthy. I think the general advice is to do something else for 15 minutes for every hour you spend behind the screen. Which imho is BS. Just make sure you take a short break every now and then. Personally I never had any problems, even when pretty much going at it for 12 hours straight (with the occasional toilet break) unless extremely tired or sitting in the dark for too long.

When I was younger I played 8-12 hour stints and yes I did feel dizzy. After a break I felt better. You really are not supposed to spend that long playing. I did it whilst not eating aswell which made it worse.

Solution: Take breaks away from any monitors every hour at least for 15minutes. Have a drinkt or make a snack.

Oh and to answer the question again, it isn't the monitor/resolution combo...

well, i do play for long periods of time, sometimes even as long as you. remember the dizzyness is not due to your eyes being strained - the problem is the sitting position for a long time.

your cardio-vascular system gets ***** up, blood circulation gets ***** up and this makes you dizzy and/or falling down when changing position rapidly, i.e. quickly standing up.

you should take frequent breaks - for example walk into the kitchen and back to make a tea or something, at least every 30 mins, to keep your blood circulation ok.

WoW really helpfull......Not, close this thread, obviously part time gamers
Not helpful in what sense?

I mean come on, 8 hours (sometimes more), even without the dizzy spells it's only common sense to suggest maybe not doing anything, not just gaming for such long periods.

As such, despite it not being what you want to hear, it's the most helpful answer you're likely to get. Whether you choose to take it onboard is your decision.

Stunned you have a wife that allows this too btw :p.

I don't get why people are giving the guy a hard time for being sat at a desk for 8 hours. How many of you sit at a desk, behind a pc for 8-10 hours for your job? then maybe even go home and sit in front of the TV/PC for another few hours?
