Is it or ain't it

I don't get why people are giving the guy a hard time for being sat at a desk for 8 hours. How many of you sit at a desk, behind a pc for 8-10 hours for your job?

Who sit's at their desk @work, for 8 hours solid everyday, without breaks?

I'll reiterate the point as you have clearly missed it - sitting at a desk for hours on end (gaming, working or whatever) is going to give you problems including but not limited to: dizzyness, headaches, poor circulation, muscle aches etc.

Should one be surprised at this? No. The solution? Obvious I would say (and this does not include buying a monitor with a higher resolution).

any and all input welcome
Thanks

You say all input is welcome, and some people give their opinion that you should take more breaks and all you do is call them 'part time gamers'!

As said take a break every couple of hours, im sure your raid/party/whatever can understand.

I don't know as I don't have a desk job, but I'd imagine you don't get a 15 min break every hour.

No, I don't get a 15min break every hour, I get as much of a break as I feel I need/want, when I want it.

Infact, we are encouraged not to sit at our desks all day. We have break out rooms, comfy sofas and areas where you can simply go and chill out. We even have a landscaped garden area with a wee pond, water feature and benches.

But again, that isn't the point. Even if I didn't have any of that, I still wouldn't be sitting at my desk for hours on end, wondering why I was suffering some form of discomfort.

Ok guys you gotta go easy on me here ....just reciently i have started to have dizzy spells while playing games (if i stood up i would prob stagger/fall) it usually happens after 8+ hours of gaming now i have had my eyes checked out and there fine so my question is there any connection with screen size and resolution and eye strain my screen is 27" 1080.
My wife thinks i'm after a new monitor (and i prob am) would going to a higher resolution help with eye strain or have the opposite effect or am i just hiting the mmo's to hard? any and all input welcome
Thanks

You need to work on the lighting in the room, the ambient light should exceed the light emitted from your monitor! also How far do you sit, do you squint to make out object, do you wear contacts? are you drinking enough water?

With respect to DVT, you should move around! When I have projects, i.e. I need code day and night, a Jug of water helps. I keep hydrated with water and at the same time it keeps me on my toes to go to the toilet!

Just out of curiosity do u go dizzy when u stand up if your not at the pc?
Say after watching tv or something?
If so its called postural hypertension caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure
which will cause you to go dizzy and stumble.

It's postural hypotension, but I believe medical chat here is frowned upon.

In essence, it sounds like you are sitting for too long. It could be something else entirely of course.

If you're spending that long looking and focussing at a screen without regular breaks, you'll probably find that when you stand up and your eyes then focus normally on other objects, near and distant, that it's likely to affect your balance.

It's similar to how some people feel sick when they've been reading in a car for a period of time and then look out the window, when you stare at a picture or image for a while or look at a website with white or yellow text on a black background and then look away, you tend to see some strange effects.

There's probably not a great deal you can do about it apart from leaving your PC for a few minutes when you have your coffee breaks. Also you could try making sure that either the room is well lit or you have some kind of backlight behind the monitor if you usually play in low light or a dark room.
