Is it possible for a manufacturer to control OS installs?

Hi all.

So heres my problem.

My new fujitsu-siemens 1718 laptop will not boot up an XP disc at all, the screen just goes black after the 'scanning hadware' message before the initial blue installation screen. Now this has happened with 2 XP discs. It will boot up linux and vista OS discs though?

I definitely know that the XP discs work fine. An issue that is making me wonder is that fujitsu do not officially support XP drivers.

Any thoughts?

never heard of that before, maybe your just unlucky with the system not loading,

The hardware scan is very intensive with XP install, more-so than I believe the Vista install, maybe it's picking up a fault of some kind.

Maybe run memtest?

try a different cd/dvd drive or different media

do the discs boot ok in other pc's?
