is it possible for GPU to damage monitor?

I recently installed a nVidia GT220 that I got from someone I know for free (amongst a load of computer parts he gave me), I installed it into my i5 rig where previously I was using the iGPU HD2500 - I overclocked the GT220 from 625/333 to 700/400 and it has been working fine - tonight (after a few weeks or month or so of this card installed) my monitor (Acer P193w) just went all funny then turned itself off... so I turned it back on and it turned itself off....now it just turns on itself then immediatley turns itself off and repeats this until I pull the plug??

can the GPU do any damage to the monitor?

I have a multi-meter, can anyone guide me to test output readings?

my PSU is an XFX Pro Core 450 and new in February so is 7-8 months old

I had noticed sometimes the screen brightness would flicker ever so slightly and i may be wrong but it seemed to coincide with the HDD making noises (being active) - not all the time...just some of the time... (I use SSD for system with 500Gb Seagate HDD for downloads and some files)

any advice appreciated

thanks

don't think a gpu can damage the monitor

still powers off with onboard graphics? seems to me the monitor has just died, flickering just before, is it an led or cathode backlit? if cathode then it will flicker before the tube light dies

think it may be CCFL

also, i just realised, all my icons are like this since it happened??

i managed to fix the icon issue with the Vista Shortcut Overlay program I used before to remove shortcut arrow - thing is I had to use 'choose overlay' option and manually select the empty.ico because using the setting "no shortcut arrow" yielded the same results...???

i no longer have windows system restore running...its unreliable as when you need it most it has no restore points or very little - ive noticed sometimes when windows crashes all restore points are lost...not all the time but ive seen it happen a lot, I now have Acronis full system backup on a Tuesday and Saturday at 6pm

i fixed the icon issue with Vista Icon Overlay tool
