Is it possible for the Windows CD to become corrupted?

I reformatted my Hard Drives and started to reinstall Windows XP but only got as far as "Installing Devices" with 35 minutes left to run, when the installation stopped dead and stayed that way. I`ve tried several times but when I get to the same place everything stops. The mouse is still moveable.
So before I have to splash out for a new CD I would appreciate your thoughts, guys.

Many thanks

George

I'd just unplug all your usb devices and let it run through (other than mouse + keyboard obviously), its not your cd.

Remove everything you don't need so you've got a very bare system (1 HD, 1 CD-Rom, no soundcard etc), and go into your BIOS and set it to Default.
Try that first.

If it is the cd damaged then you dont need to splash out on a new one as you can use a dell windows cd (pressuming you know someone with a dell)

It doesnt ask for code during installation but needs activating within 30 days

Then activate it using the legit sticker from your pc :)

8 times out of ten it will work...the other 2 you will need to phone up m$ to activate it.

Thanks Folks - I have removed all addon hardware and it still stops at the "Installing Devices" so I tried it on another pc and the cd worked ok.
I`m gonna take the HD from my main pc to my spare pc and try that out

Many thanks
