Is it possible to be motivated without emotion?

I can't really think of any situation where you would be motivated without emotion. Depends how you define emotion of course. You could be motivated to do something in order to survive but I would say that's still due to an emotion, namely the fear of death.

Surely desire is an emotion? And thus, wanting to do something, i.e. being motivated, requires having the emotion (desire) to do it.

Motivation at its very essence is a drive to do something, be that a carrot or a stick. With the carrot or the stick I'd say there were definetly emotional attachments.

Then again some people are driven and live to work. Robotised themselves just to just do it, where I imagine they lack an emotional connection with what they're doing.

So the answer is Yes/No depending on the person and scenario. Or as I like to think maybe.

:)

You're being very thought-provoking today CBS!

And you must have an emotion in order to be motivated, it's not necessarily what you want to do, but anger (or such) could have caused it.

Just re-read, not sure exactly what to argue

I'll just say no to the question :)

I asked it because I have another question on my mind which is much more expansive, but can't explain it yet.

I remember why I chose sciences not arts :p

I'll stick with 'no' for this question then :) When do we get the next one?
