is it possible to blow rgb lights on a mobo?

so yesterday I tried to plug in an rgb case fan, but it’s not controllable, however the moment I plugged everything in and the molex for the fan along with the 3 pin header connected to the cable on the rgb header on the board I heard a pop and the system shut off, so I unplugged the header and fired it up as normal and it all works all apart from the onboard lights?

So now I don’t know if Ive done something or if it’s anything to do with the rgb fusion app via the gigabyte software that had an update the moment I turned the computer on! While it doesn’t save the settings, it was set on music as I selected yesterday, but I wasn’t listening to anything at the time before I realised somethings wrong and now none of the other options do anything.


I know it’s only rgb stuff, but it’s part of the board and now I question whether other rgb stuff will work should I buy anything else that I would be able to control from the software.

Does sound suspicious. Can you trace along the board the header to see if there's a chip that controls the RGB? A transistor or similar component could have burned out, especially if a connection was shorted or something. Any photos?

Were you connecting an addressable RGB component to an addressable header? Are the motherboard lights addressable too?

I would think it's the control and supply circuitry that's blown rather than the lights themselves, or you'd see some lights still working.
