Is It Possible To Buy A Replacement OLED Panel?

My 3 year old son has accidentally smashed my LG E9 screen and I'm having the set replaced with the GX or possibly the CX.

It doesn't look like the insurance company are going to uplift the old set so I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a replacement panel for it and if so where from?

Going to ping LG an email tomorrow about it but I expect some generic unhelpful response.

Have any of you sourced a panel to repair one of these OLEDs?

Sure, but it'll cost an arm and three legs which then makes the repair uneconomical.

Or, put another way, if the panels were available at the sort of price to make it worthwhile doing then your insurer wouldn't be replacing the TV. They'd be repairing it, wouldn't they?

I get that but if it cost say £800 then I'd be tempted to get it repaired and sell the GX that the insurance have offered to replace it with.

I like the look of the GX but it'd be mounted on a solid wall making it a pain in the backside to hide the cables and trunking always looks naff. On the other hand, if I take the CX as a replacement I feel like I'm losing out as it's a cheaper set.

The E9 was just perfect for my setup and I really just wanted like for like but they can't source any stock.

Just watched that vid, I have some dead pixels on my 65 oled closer to the center of the screen and as he did I have just submitted an image of them to LG, let's see what happens.

You can change the panel but getting one might be a problem as they are not generally sold to the public and most repair places won’t just sell you the panel as the money they make is from fitting. I doubt LG will sell you a panel but it’s worth a try or even get a quote to have it repaired. It might still be worth doing... I tried a while back to get a panel for a friends but came up stuck.

I've asked LG for a quote. May not be viable but I'm interested to see what they come back with.

Edit: Just got an email from them. They won't supply a panel but have kindly offered to repair it for £999.

Actually, the insurance have offered just over £1500 cash as a settlement so I'm now thinking I'm as well getting the repair from LG and pocketing the difference. It'll cover the policy excess that I've already paid and subsidise my PS5.

If I can negotiate a bit off the repair then all the better.

If you get the cash and dont want a newer TV and are very happy with the existing one then paying £999 is quite a good idea. Just hope the premium doesnt go up.
