Is it possible to configure a mic?

I bought the ModMic 4.0 to go with my new DT 770 Pro headphones and I was wondering if it's possible to configure the mic to react only to the sound of my voice?

I've been testing in the mic in the capture test in Teamspeak and if left it on continuous transmission (not that I ever would) their is quite a lot of white noise/hiss and it picks up every sound really clearly. Just pressing my mouse buttons broadcasts the clicking noise quite clearly.

The mic and headphones are connected to the front panel of my case (if that matters?) and my sound card is an Asus Xonar DG running in Windows 10.

Thanks

I'm rather disappointed because I watch a bunch youtube reviews on this mic and i was under the impression it had good noise cancellation and would only pick up what was right in front of it, i.e my voice.

In Teamspeak you should be able to set the thresholds on Voice Activation such that it only toggles on when you speak.

Interesting; sounds like a very useful feature. I've never used Teamspeak. :o

Could be that those who said that were using something as described by makhaira. I've found a few mics which have been described as having good noise cancellation, actually don't at all really, so it's possible that the software used is what makes the difference.

Dropping the gain on the mic will help to some extent but if you want good noise rejection, you need a tighter pickup pattern. (cardioid) Ant lion refer to their cardioid version as uni-directional.

There is no such thing as noise cancellation microphones as there is no way for it to determine the difference between wanted sounds and unwanted sounds. What you end up doing is actually signal processing performed by the software that uses the mic.
