Is it possible to connect to a Synology Nas via SMB

Currently I am having issues with indexing connecting via AFP which for the most part works fine.

However I am having huge Indexing issues. I forced index on for this network share but after a few days the index is wrong and all results are for different files. So I wanted to try and connect via SMB. However its not working.

I am using OS X Mavericks too which apparently supports SMB2.
The Synology is a DS412+

Any advise?

I believe there is a glitch with SMB2 on the current Synology DSM version, seem to recall reading that somewhere. I connect to a DS410J using SMB so I know it works.
