Hi guys asking this for a family member who has a laptop and a dongle for internet not sure which company but is there a way to increase signal to the dongle as where they live is right on the edge of the city so there having signal problems.

External antenna. If you dont have a socket on the dongle, then you can get one that straps to the dongle.

I only know of one place that does them, but it's a potential competitor so can't post the link.

I know the 3 one I had came with a USB connector with 2 ends, so it could draw more than 500mA from the usb sockets. No idea if it worked or not!

I have mine on a USB extension by the window, gets much better signal. 3 out of 5 bars HSDPA signal and I live 15 miles from a town.

That's probably the best thing you can do. 3G signals don't penetrate particularly well into buildings, so moving closer to a window often increases the signal quite a lot.
