Hey guys,

I have plans to make a site where i can write interesting original short stories. Can i make a good income out of this?

I want to place adverts on the site so every time the add loads on the page being viewed i get paid. If the site attracted tens of thousands of people or even a million, would i make a lot of money?

If you could make a good income out simply setting up a website yourself and writing good, original short stories on it and making wads of cash off of advertising then there would be a lot of people in this worls much better off. However, being realistic, it's not likely to happen is it?
 
Couple of issues :

1) Assuming that your stories are red hot stuff, if its digital then people can steal it.
2) Assuming that your stories are red hot stuff, unless people know about them and decide to pay for them and read them, you aren't going to make money.
3) Assuming that your stories are red hot stuff, unless people are willing to stare at a screen to read on a computer instead of opening up a book for five minutes on the train, you aren't going to get customers.

Now, I know this is a no brainer, but are you actually a writer? Have you wanted to be a writer your whole life, have amazing ideas (write frequently), read a lot, and are able to express yourself well?

The bottom line is, if you want to be a writer, fair enough. But a website might not be the best direction.
 
Well I have a really incredible imagination, three years ago I wrote a story. I will not post the name of the story but it was a big hit and got people glued to their screens wanting more and more. During the time i was adding posts after posts to readers of a forum. I had amassed over 200K hits and gained 155 replies. People wanted to read more than replying. The story ended up in a magazine read by half a million people. Some thought it was real others thought it was fantasy. I had fan mail loads of mail. I was talked about on forums all over the world.

Unfortunately I have had to keep myself hidden and nobody knows the writer behind all those forum posts.

Now I really want to take all my incredible ideas and write an incredible story to be shared online with readers all over the world.

I want to make a site with ads running on them, I want a reader to pay per chapter, Or pay a one off price to read all chapters. They wouldn't just get it all in one go. The idea is to release several chapters each week. But to save money instead of paying for each chapter they can buy it in a bulk payment.

I really want to create this, would it actually make a lot of money?
 
Back when i created my story on the forum and getting 200k of hits if I had back then made my own website with ads would I of made a lot of money with 200K of hits? How much would I of made?
 
yeah plus the fact this posts are hardly well written, they aren't bad by any means it's just the posts don't seem at all how a writer of a book read by millions world wide would have wrote them.
 
Listen can you people stop and just hear me out, if I had a future site which gave people the chance to read an amazing story and if it had 200K of hits with the ads running on the page how much could i make?

I don't mean to sound rude but surely if you had an amazing story that everyone wanted to read you'd be much better off trying to get it published. I doubt J K Rowling would have done so well if she'd just relied on adds from a website.

200k hits isn't all that much in the grand scheme of things.
 
only $400 i thought i could make something like $20,000

Is there not any other kind of advertising you could do? Or even ask big names to advertise on your site and if a visitor clicks through from my site and pays for something through the advertiser then surely you could make a lot of money this way right?
