REALLY don't want to have to install any software, just be able to plug it in and drag to it (i don't own one yet)

i don't thinkso, i believe it would require it to have a new hacked up firmware, ud have to google it see if anyones managed to do it

you can always drag/drop mp3s onto it, but it wont be able to play them :)

it could work i guess good luck :)

if you do find somewhere, post it!

It's not possible (short of recent hackers creating new firmware, etc)

The iPod nano, just like other iPods, needs music files to be transferred by iTunes or a compatible application - the files have to be put in precisely the right place, with the right database file and so on. You can drag MP3s (or any files) to the Nano for storage, but they won't play.

If that's a big issue for you, get a competing player rather than an iPod, lots of the competition will let you drag and drop.

you could try a program called anapod
it allows drag and drop of mp3's how ever in the process it converts the files to an IPod compatable version. works ok on my nano as I didn't want to install itunes.
edit: it's not free - i think it's about £14 but they do offer a free trial...

Another vote for Anapod - i Use it to right click -> send to -> Windows iPod :)

Lovely program. Bought it after 5 minutes of using iTunes (god knows how anyone figures that program out) and never looked back.

hmm niceone guys, i take it its just a dll file it uses, so could be registered easily on any pc once i have a licence for it (then unregistered when i move off it) -for portable use

atm i have an iaudio m3 and m5, but was possibly after something REALLY sleek

When you transfer a file to an ipod, it transfers the file, but also makes a specific entry into the ipod's database. This is what allows you to scroll through your songs, albums and playlists so quickly. :)

Welcome to the world of iPod... :p

Thats one of the reasons I've got several irivers. :D

Rockbox is probably your best bet - but kiss byebye to any warranty you think you have.

Don't listen to the guys with Anapod Explorer because it works exactly the same way as I-Tunes except it works within your File Manager.

You drag and drop onto I-Tunes and you drag and drop onto Anapod - exactly the same.

With both programs you have to make sure your MP3's are tagged correctly before you put them on your IPOD or else they will go everywhere.
You can tag them with both programs but I find it easier by tagging them before with a free prog called ID3-Tagit.
