Is it possible to OC an i7 920 to 4Ghz?

Hi All,

EX58-UDR3 R1.0 Mobo. i7 920 2.66ghz C0 proc.

I have a stable OC at 3.42 OC (mem multiplier is set below 1600mhz spec though). I get temps in OCCT of around mid to high 70's.

What water cooler would enable me to get to 4Ghz even if that's possible?

Cheers
DK

My i7 920 has been @4ghz for the last 3 years and never gone over 50c on water

Zalman offer some very good air coolers or get a OcUK Tech Labs enclosed water cooler.

Posting from phone so can't find link, but a guy called oldphart posted a really comprehensive o/c bios config for the 920 on the CPU forum. Will be a good starting point. If you can't find it let me know, I've got a copy on my PC and can post it later

My friend got a 920 to 3.8GHz on a mid-end Noctua air cooler. So yea absolutely. H100 should do the trick. Though consider extremely high end air cooling aswell.

It's a C0 stepping.. they tended to max out at 3.8Ghz.

You would get the odd chip every now and then that would run higher but generally 3.8Ghz was your lot.

It wasn't until Intel released the D0 stepping that 4Ghz+ became common with the 920.

could try

21x 155bclk = 3.255ghz
10x mem multi = 1550
21x uncore freq

set cpu voltage to normal in cpu voltage list
set dram voltage according to your memory so either 1.5v or 1.66v

leave everything else as it is

same for roughly 3.4ghz

21x160 bclk = 3.36ghz
10x mem multi = 1600 ram speed
21x uncore freq
