Is it possible to overclock AMD 8350 using ASUS M5A97 R2.0

This is on a M5A99x Evo but may give some pointers on voltages etc. I am using Phanteks so may be better than the H70 not too sure. Get some cooling in the VRM area.
I use LLC extreme or ultra high for the CPU and high for the NB when benching.
FSB 300 x 16 multi
CPU 4800mhz
CPU Volt 1.48-1.52
NB 2340mhz
CPU/NB Volt 1.23
NB Volt 1.10
SB Volt 1.11
VDDA Volt 2.49
HT Link 2340mhz
HT Volt 1.19
Dram 2000mhz (or as close as you can get)
Dram volt 1.65

The motherboards are not too far off but i would say if he used those voltages, things wont go as well as with your board. Like you said a decent Phantek cooler will outperform the h70 in this case, not so much more on the cpu temperature but DEFINITELY on the motherboard.

The h70 wont assist in cooling the VRM's, so before OCing, check load temps on the VRM's and be cautious as these are power munching CPU's and you might even find that you are getting throttling even at stock!

As far as I can work out you can overclock but not a great deal on these boards you want to look at the 990fx for better overclocking

I used the same fx on a 7xx mobo, 970 and 990, and can i say that i was alarmed at just how much more i could do. Not so much feature wise on the board, but things seem to be way more stable on the 990's than i anticipated. With the 970, i got a huge voltage drop and couldn't get the multiplier ANY higher without overheating everything by upping vcore too much. To be honest though, i think this is less to do with the NB chip and more to do with the overall quality of the 990 boards, they cost more so depending on the board you are more likely to get higher quality components. Currently running it on a Crosshair V formula Z, now i manage to get over the 5 ghz mark stable in prime for an hour. The other two boards wouldn't let me up my Vcore past 1.425V, I would get throttling at that point (even with LLC 1.425 at load was like 1.52 in the BIOS LOL). It could be i just got unlucky with teh first two boards since nkata seems to have quite a nice clock, but i had no air cooling near the VRM's so its not surprising they overheated. Currently have EK's full block on the C5V-Z :)
