As thread title,

I have a rubbish pc here that I've borrowed, I'm having a massive upgrade to conroe set up with 2gb ram and so on for Wednesday.

I was wondering If I could install windows on my Sata HD and after the installation when it reboots before logging in for the first time, turning off the pc.

Is this achievable? Is it recommended?

Not recommended, but i would think that shutting it down during the post sequence is fine.

As in turn it off when you hear the POST beep, of course being sure its the right beep, before the HDD has time to continue the installation process, which should continue next time its turned on.

I've never tried it, but i'd assume as long as you turn it off at the correct time all should be fine.

No guarantees.

I think you can do this, iirc (was ages ago) I did this with my spare 'server' PC, I plugged the HD into my main rig and allowed it to install Windows, then I turned the PC off during POST (just held the power button) and plugged the HD into the spare rig.

The only problem, although not huge, is it then has to re-install all the hardware, as it is different from the bits loaded during the install... err... if that makes sense :)

Scort.

Might be easier to create an Nlite installation disc in unattended mode. Just need to pop the disc in, reboot, and it should install automatically.
