I've noticed that my PC is accessing the Hard Drive nearly constantly for the first 30 minutes or so it is on. It then has occasional bursts as you use it!

Even if I just leave it idling!

I have no scheduled Virus scanners, De-frags etc. running.

What could be accessing my hard drive so often!?

Are you running windows Vista? It will be the indexing service. Its normal, leave it be :) Also windows vista has a scheduled defrag set all by itself - will usually kick in when idle, again, leave it be or amend the defrag to weekly basis when your at work :)

Nope but it depends how big your HDD is. Mine does it for about 10mins I think on bootup and occasionally here and there. Whe the defrag kicks in on my 500 + 300 GB that can take some time lol :) Click start -> all progs > accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmenter and see what its set too.

thanks for that, i just set mine to weekly :)

Not connected to a LAN. It is all alone!

I restarted it in safe mode, and no hard disk chunter. It must be a service that is an optional, non-necessary thing!

It is deeply annoying.

Tried running ad-aware, and it crashes every time I attempt it, says problem with service, had to close!

Any other good Vista 64 compatible spyware detectors?

Right, this is getting ridiulous, my Hard Drive has now been running 100% of the time for 3 straight hours, that is not indexing, page filing, or anything else for that matter!

Windows system resource monitor shows the following

svchost (Local SystemNetworkRestricted) PID 928

This is hitting the disks constantly!

Any ideas????
