use an lcd or led hdtv as a computer monitor in PORTRAIT mode like we can with some monitors.
If so, what would be the requirements?

First problem I would see would how it would stand? Most TV's are designed to sit in one position not to be rotated like monitors

Though I guess if you got around this problem, I don't see why not, I guess you would just change the display to portrait in either CCC or Nvidia control panel.

ok lets say such a feature existed that allowed rotation of the tv. Would it be possible?

Yes, it would be possible - just use the rotation feature built into Nvidia control panel or AMD Catalyst control centre.

As for physically rotating it, with a VESA-compatibele TV this shouldn't be a big problem - just get a nice stand or wall mount.

Thank you for that, just have an idea in the back of my head for a work related task. wasnt 100% so thought id ask.
