fixing a mates pc getting non system disk error.

tried a few different HD's which it wont recognise so i assume it was the IDE controller on the mother board.

I tired the other controller on the motherboard and geting the same.

is it possible for both controllers to just die ?

would an pci ide controller card fix this?

thanks

It's possible I suppose, but unlikely unless they share a common component.

The PCI IDE card may be a work round I guess.
Think most of them are bootable, but may depend on your BIOS.

I just read on the 2-Channel Ultra ATA / 133 PCI IDE Card..

Weaknesses: Cannot boot from specific devices attached to the card on older BIOSes.
