Hi, was just wondering if it would be possible to re-use parts from my current machine (Compaq SR5139) to put into another machine which would be newly built with parts from OCUK ofc. I am going to be getting around £300 soon and i am contemplating spending it on a new machine but as it is a very limiting budget, i plan to re-use parts from my current, fairly acceptable machine.

The current PC is a Compaq SR5139 consisting of:

Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz
2GB RAM
320GB HD space
256MB nVida Ge-force 8400GS card

They seem to restrict releasing info on the other parts and i cant find a website that shows every bit of hardware in the PC.

I'm not sure on which bits would be best to keep and which bits would be best for replacing.

Could i build a better machine than i already have with this idea?

Thanks.

Chances are they could all be reused. I think in some dells they cut different notches into the ram, but never seen this on Compaq.

What are you going to be using your new rig for.

Personally Id keep the CPU and HDD. And it depends what speed the RAM is.

I see.

It will be used for gaming and browsing the web really. Not a hardcore gamer but about 50-60% of its useage will used for games (CoD etc)

Not too sure on the RAM as i cant check now as the machine is in a store being repaired at the mo. Any ideas on what sort of new G-card to get? Could i re-use the case?

Id just buy a new case. The Antec 300 is 50 quid, and I doubt any compaq case looks that good.

You sent it to a shop to get fixed?

Thanks for the suggestions.

yes, i have insurance on it you see, so its free to get repaired. They're kitting it out with all brand new parts (same spec parts, but new).

Would the fans in the current machine enough for the new one also?
