Is it possible..?

Thank you.
The thing is I have tried to install Windows 7 in IDE mode (as mentioned, my BIOS does not support AHCI) and am getting an error from Windows saying that Windows cannot install on my computers hardware. Windows 7 was working fine on my HDD. I disconnected the HDD during install so only the SSD was connected but I got that error when trying to install which makes me think that there is a problem with the SSD. It is an OCZ Agility 30GB.

I have been in contact with OCZ support and showed them my posts from **** and another forum (asking about installing Windows in IDE mode) but they still won't accept that the drive may be faulty.

Where do I go from here?

Regards

What did they believe the issue was?

An OCZ support rep replied to me with appalling grammar! He thought that I would need to install Windows 7 in AHCI mode on a different computer and then put it back into my main pc which is in IDE mode.
I personally don't think this will work as installing in AHCI and changing back to IDE mode won't be great!

I also do not want to swap motherboards due to cable management etc and maybe only to find that it doesn't work.

Personally, I think there may be a problem with my SSD.

Regards

If your motherboard has Raid mode, try using that as it should include AHCI support.

I've always gone by the following (taken off another forum as they put it very nicely):

  • IDE mode, in which neither AHCI nor RAID is enabled.
  • AHCI mode, also called SATA mode, has AHCI enabled but not RAID
  • RAID mode, which is the same as AHCI mode but with RAID support

Will try that soon, but I still think it is a problem with my HDD as Windows 7 has installed fine on my HDD in IDE mode.
Do you think I need an RMA for the SSD?

If it won't install in Raid mode either, then perhaps an RMA would be justified.

If you fancy getting hardcore (not really hardcore) you could install it on your HDD, take an image of it and restore the image to your SSD.
