By that I mean will software I have used on XP 32bit now not be any use ?
Have the early compatibility problems of 64bit OS been fixed ?
I know there are no 64bit drivers for my Nebula TV card, so could I run Ultimate version in XP mode to make it work.... I guess this would still be 64 bit, even a virtual machine ? (May have to dual boot to XP 32bit)

I plan to order an OEM version with a 64gb SSD, I don't game now, just use windows app's etc.

Will be fine, any 32bit software is run through Program Files x86. In the unlikely event any current software doesn't work with Windows 7, there are usually alternatives.

As for drivers, 64bit Vista drivers should work fine. If there are none of these I'm not sure what you could do.

Ok, thanks..... I have 4Gig of RAM that I can not fully use under 32bit OS, so 64bit would make sense and help Photoshop etc ???..... Should I then go more than 4 Gig ?

Be mad to order the OEM version while the retail versions are so cheap........

Go buy the retail version. For one, it comes with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. So if you do ever have problems (you really shouldn't however) you can install the 32-bit version.

Also, if you change your motherboard you won't have any problems with the license etc.

As for problems with 64-bit Windows, I don't think there are that many problems. Never heard of any.

Given 64-bit OS's have been around for a while, I would assume most applications run fine on them by now. If not, I would be a bit ****ed off/worried.

It's just that people tend to remember the early days of WinXP 64 which suffered with drivers and applications.

Just the same as people tend to still go around saying that Vista has lack of drivers and is flakey.

These issues have all been resolved with Vista x64 and Vista SP2 making there no real reason to not go 64 bit now.

Windows 7 just makes it less resource hungry and more user friendly for the user compared to Vista. I am not trying to say go Vista instead here before someone infers that.

my dad's webcam doesn't work with 64 (drivers) it's the only problem i've seen.

Thanks for your input guys, your correct I remember the stories for early 64bit XP, but then I don't keep much with PC stuff these days.....(Normally found lurking in the AV section of the forum..LOL)
I'll think about the Retail version, but is already more than I wanted to spend, once I factor in the SSD, which for the type of use I have will make a huge difference.
Interested in the Ultimate version because you can switch languages, and my g/f is Slovak !
Just leaves my TV card, will have to rethink that, shame to be the only reason to stay with 32 bit.

Does the retail version legally allow you to use on more than one PC..... Somewhere I saw a version that was up to 3, perhaps the basic home or education edition ?

You can only install on one machine at any one time, but being retail you can upgrade or move to different pc belongs it's removed / uninstalled from the original pc.

There is a family pack which allows you to install on 3 pc's, not sure on prices ect.

Installed 64bit Win 7 but can't get drivers for belkin G usb adapter, tried various vista 64bit drivers from belkin website but doesn't seem to work. That's the only hardware problem for me.
