Is it safe to install programs on another HDD

I recently bought Samsung 128GB SSD and I have manage to use up a lot of space. Out of curiosity, it is save to install programs like Steam, 3DS Max and Photoshop on to my Western Digital 500GB HDD? I heard it's not recommended to install programs on another HDD since registry will not install properly. Not sure of this is true.

Any help will do.

Yep, no problems whatsoever. Youll find that most people will do this, particularly with large installs such as steam. I only keep my most played games, (bf3 and bfbc2) on my 120gb ssd.
