the spec in my sig, is it safe to run passive or just the 80mm fan at the back of the standard antec 900 case ?

all ill be doing is downloading, currently theres 6 fans and 4 blue l.e.d's and i cant sleep with it on....

also how do i take the l.e.d's out of the fans or stop them working...... one of which is in the psu......

wish id gone for a silent system now.

Cover the LED with blutack. Monitor temps while its running without the fans, use coretemp. You might be able to get an alarm utility for if a certain temp is exceeded, check the disk that came with the motherboard.

Use crystalcpuid or clockgen to reduce clock speeds overnight, not sure if you could lower the volts too

I would set everything to stock then you wont have any problems with running the E6300 passive, if your downloading and surfing the net you wont notice any different.

I Would leave one fan connected, the biggest you have and 7v volt it, loads of guides on the net for '7v Fan mod'

Good Luck ;)

Or since minimal airflow is needed at best, just run it at 5v.
Yep... if yer gonna just have one fan, the best place to have it would be on the CPU cooler tbh.

You wont hear the fan at 5v unless it's one of those crazy high RPM jobbies.

A fan controller is a good idea if you want to change between loud and fast, and quiet and slow.

Also, you may be able to underclock and undervolt yer CPU at night, so it gives off less heat.

I can run my athlon xp at 2800Mhz @ 1.9v for gaming, and 600MHz @ 1.1v for downloading if I need to, but as I'm on water, theres less need for me to do so, unless I need to heat my room at night. :)

Experiment while keeping an eye on yer temps, and you'll be sorted.

EDIT: Remember to stress test your settings after playing with your volts and mhz, with a proggie like prime95. I'm sure there's something better than that for dual cores tho.

I think he means the 2 blue led fans in the front on the 900's case. In which case, it cant be done without mutilating them. I would keep the 200 running as it is silent at low. It has quite good airflow too. You will be able to just snip the led's off the fans, but i think black electricians tape would be better.

Its mainly the led cpu fan at the back of the case tbh, i was thinking of unplugging that and leaving the 200mm fan above the heatsink, on.

Then theres the 2 led fans at the front to take care of, and the 1 led fan in the ocz psu....
