I've got Half-Life and just downloaded 1.5 I think it was from the Jolt server along with some Half-Life update. When I try to play online it says it's out of date. What do I need to do?

I used to play CS quite a lot, from 1.1ish to 1.5 then I gave up because it was getting lame. I'm out of the loop as you can see!

get steam if you havnt already then create an account and enter the CD key from your half life game, this willt hen unlock games available to you and download CS 1.6 which is still one of the most popular online games

It says my CD key is already in use :( If I buy it again (it's only $10) and I download it what happens if I reformat? Can I download it for free?

Drop Valve an email and tell them some one is using your cdkey

To answer your question, if you buy something on Steam it can be redownloaded indefinitely if you reformat or uninstall, as long as you know your Steam account details.

All in the SteamFAQ Sticky in my Sig ;)

If your CD Key is already in use and you have not registered the CD Key yourself on Steam, then you can get in contact with Valve to try and get the CD Key moved to a new one, but I think that'll cost some time and money, and probably best to just buy the games over Steam or retail.

If you're buying CS over Steam, you can just buy CS on its own, or as part of a bundle that'll give you most of the Half-Life 1 games.
