A friend of mine is having some nasty crashing in Borderlands, and now Left 4 Dead 2, where the entire computer will just shut down (edit, brown screen with white lines, or black screen, lights and fans still running). At first i thought it would be the temps, but after checking them, they seem absolutely fine (max temp of 80c at crash). Quite frankly, im stumped at whats causing it. Here are his idle temps -

Here are the details GPU-z logged at the point the game shut down his system -

GPU Core Clock [MHz] = 650.0, GPU Memory Clock [MHz] = 1050.0, GPU Temperature [°C] = 59.0, Fan Speed [%] = 79, GPU Load [%] = 80, Fan Speed [RPM] = 1069, GPU Temp.(DISPIO) [°C] = 59.0, GPU Temp.(MEMIO) [°C] = 60.5, GPU Temp.(SHADERCORE) [°C] = 62.5.

Hes happily been playing Dragon Age for 60+ hours without a hitch. Hell we even went through the entire L4D2 campaign, and a good 10+ hours in Borderlands at the start without a single crash even hinted at, yet now Borderlands has been doing it for the past 2 weeks, and now L4D2. Nothing has changed in the system, no hardware or software changes. Obviously my mate is angry as there doesnt appear to solution to this. What do you lot think ? He says he usually gets a brown screen with white lines, or just a black screen, and has to hard reset it.

Shutting down (as in switching off), if so, then it sounds like a PSU problem.

As they do just switch off when they can't supply anymore power.
