Or have Asus got other GYSYNC monitors in th pipeline ? And how long will it be until they hit ?

Is the swift due a refresh ? As in will a new TN panel replace the swift ?

Oh god yes they do and so do all the other manufacturers!

Im in the same boat as you, i keep almost pushing the buy button but i always feel there are a few things wrong with the current screens and earlier days etc and something much better just round the corner!

Anyway Asus certainly have their next models coming very shortly

although its a 144Ghz IPS pnael and not TN but I prefer them :P

ALthough the article says there are several different models and screen coming, it just picked on that particular model as been special. Ive just seen on the news later on there is a new tn gsync model as well.

That confirms it then...I'll wait...the swift is getting on a bit now...thanks for the link :)

Just got to wait it out mate,

Im in the same boat and nearly pushed the button on the Swift and the Acer.

Been waiting for over a year for the right one to show up.

I would wait it out to see what the Asus GYSYNC monitors are like before buying one. The Asus 144Ghz GYSYNC monitors are using
the exact same panel as the Acer and so might have the same issues when it comes to backlight bleed and IPS glow.

Same boat here, waiting on the right one to arrive before buying. Been so close to ordering the swift on a few occasions, mainly due to lack of patience. Am very keen to see what the next couple of months bring us.

Bloody hell, that's not acceptable for such an expensive monitor.

That's why I settled on the Swift. I have always had TN panels and love them.

The Swift is an 8bit TN, coupled with g-Sync and 1440P it's going to be great.

Maybe in 3 years I will move to IPS 4K when things settle.

I find the debate about TN and IPS very interesting. I am going to I55 and hope to see freesync/g-sync TN/IPS screens to compare. How much of this debate is down to the users eyesight and colour perception? I always hear about blacks being better represented in IPS, but do people see the same thing looking at panels or is this all in the eye of the behonder?

"old" TN's used to suffer quite a bit with washed out blacks and colours in general... the newer TN panels like the swift are a world away

I run both a Swift and an IPS monitor side by side and I would actually say the TN is better on darker colours (with a little bit of gamma tweaking in NVCP) than my IPS. On my IPS the blacks tend to glow in the corners, so looking at dark material (games, movies whatever) is more pleasant on the TN.

I also tend to play games at night, so my room is dimmer than full sunlight, so the main advantage of IPS being able to have higher brightness is lost on me.

If you usually use a monitor in very bright conditions and from different angles then an IPS can really shine through, but for typical "gaming" scenarios there's really not a disadvantage to using a TN, and then a TN will typically have much better motion handling than an IPS.

It's all personal choice.

I prefer a VA screen for the contrast but it has other issues.

I'll settle for a good IPS screen as second but there are lemons our there.

As for TN I just cant stand it, and would hate to stare at one of them all day but some people love them.

Moral of the story is buy what your eyes like.

Same can be said for flicker, some people see them and some dont.

My ideal monitor is oled though but they are a way off been affordable.

There's no way to get "objective judgements" about it because it does come down to how you experience it. I find that over time I trust in other people's judgments less and less because of this. E.g. I would hear all over the Internet how terrible 1080p 27'' monitors would be because of pixel density and yet I absolutely loved it. Or I hear about how awesome 1440p is compared to 1080p and then I try it and feel underwhelmed. Thank God we live in a country with great return policy, is all I can say.

Thanks for all the comments. Its certainly not a straight forward decision. I am going to go 1440 next and definitely need to research this one a lot.

I got the Swift and didn't think it was much cop 1st one had a duff pixel 2nd one has what looks like a fingerprint that wobbles in the middle of the screen when the screen moves a little. Waiting for my 3rd now. I had a Samsung 27"750D 120hz jobbie and loved it tbh. But putting the swift back in the box and setting up the old screen looks dire. I also compared it to a Dell IPS I have and while the colours do look nicer they don't seem miles better. The picture quality is great on the swift. Only problem I really see with TN or good ones now is the viewing angles if that gets on your nerves then there will just be no hope for you. Myself it doesn't bother me a whole lot and I would like to get the most out of my gaming and so far I haven't seen anything nicer than the Swift. Although I haven't exactly had a ton of panels in the last couple of years. Will be interesting to see what the new Asus IPS is like but it does worry me its the same panel as the Acer. Again if I use one in the flesh I might be tempted to change my mind:)
