I built my desktop for Vista, in 2010 it's now on Win 7, and I'm trying to upgrade it as cheaply as possible.

I will give credit where it's due my system has never failed me, in the 10 years since I built it. It runs 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, except for when I go on holiday (not often)

This my case Cooler Master Sniper Black Edition
I am an AMD woman I have in the case at the moment AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition 3400 MHz
AC-Alpine 64-Pro CPU Cooler
1 Extra 120mm Arctic Fan
Thermaltake 875W Toughpower XT Cable Management PSU
2 x Dual Layer DVD /-RW Sata Optical Drives
2 x IDE Hard Drives
1 x 128GB SSD
Nvidia Ge Force gtx 750 TI GPU
Internal Creative Sound Blaster X-FI Audio Card

This is what I have ordered

I will be replacing the other things with :-
1TB Samsung SSD
2 x 1TB Sata Internal Drives
MSI B450-A PRO MAX AMD AM4 ATX Gaming Motherboard
Kingston ValueRAM 8GB 2666MHz DDR4 Desktop Memory
AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.40GHz 6 Core AM4 CPU with Wraith Cooler

Just for Winblows 10. I tend to stream TV and Movies, browse, and have will have WC3-Reforged, oh and listen to Mp3's. So nothing to hard core. I know this is an OC forum, I have never OC anything

Although now I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't put in a new PSU
 
Efficiency of such oversized and low end already 10 years ago PSU will be horrible most of the time.
As in probably continuously 20W more heat compared to better sized 80+ Gold.

Single 2TB drive is cheaper than two 1TB drives.
Also take 5400RPM drives, those consume less power/run cooler than 7200 rpm drive.
And you're going to need to keep graphics card, because Ryzen CPUs don't have it.
So called "APUs" with model designation ending into G have integrated GPU.

You need to read my entire post properly :confused:
 
Absolutely no requirement for a new PSU. If it's working, it's working.

I've got a Corsair HX520 that's well over ten years old still kicking out watts like the day I bought it.

An extra 20W for 8 hours every day is about £9 per year. So quite a long payback period.

I would expect the excess ripple caused by a degraded cap to cause the PSU to shut off under high load before it goes pop. This is the advantage of getting a reputable brand who design for safety.
