Just wondering if its time for an upgrade.
I keep an eye on the developments of the pc world, but sometimes its so quick. Its been a few years since i did my last build.

BF3 and other games are on the horizon and i believe the min specs for the gpu are a good couple of series about mine.

Heres my build spec.

Is this going to struggle with upcoming games?
If so what is recommended? Id like to keep cost down, so if i could get away with keeping the original case/psu/hdd and perhaps just changing the mobo/ram/cpu and gpu that would be a better option.

You might get away with keeping the CPU for a while and just oc'ing it to death, looks like you'll need an upgrade though. How much roughly do you want to spend ?

Holy table breaking batman!

The Q6600 is still a very capable CPU, even at stock, although I advise giving overclocking a go if you experience slowdowns.

The 4870 is a very powerful GPU and you shouldn't be experiencing any lag, but if you're a "max twinklies" kind of guy, a 6950 2GB will do you proud.

I could budget for an upgrade over the next few months if neccessary and im going to see a difference? Im not sure if im at a stage where i would, or if im better hanging fire for now

I am a complete novice to overclocking, and dont really know what im doing so iv always left all of my cpu's stock.

Will the 4870 run bf3 and upcoming games well enough to not warrent an upgrade?

Depends what res you play an if you want all the extras turned on, but ad said above the 4870 could handle that. The problem is I think bf3 recommends a 5850, I suggest you wait for release and find some benchmarks (:

you would see a a lot of performance increase once you overclock that q6600.
get a aftermarket cooler(Gelid tranquillo or Silver Arrow) for now and overclock the cpu,
heres a guide,

Thanks i'll take a look at that.

Are the cpu coolers mentioned above suitable for the matx build. The scythe mini ninja i have installed at the moment is very tight for space.
