Hi guys, I'm looking to get a new GPU.
Currently running a 7970 and have been trying to hold off until something decent came around but GPU prices are staying relatively high rather than being discounted that much, thanks to the high demand.
I'm probably going more towards Nvidia at the moment due to AMD struggling to keep it together with Vega (drivers apparently not ready, features supposedly not yet unlocked, priced higher than expected etc).
I do like that Freesync monitors are cheaper than G-sync monitors, but that's about the only thing AMD have going for them at the moment IMO... Though the varying quality of some of them is alarming. Also i'm only running 2x1080p60 monitors (technically they're 5+ year old TVs...) but only have any games running on one screen at a time. I realise that I don't need that much power for 1080p but I'm looking towards 1440p120 or possibly getting into VR, if it's any good (there's no VR testing places nearby as far as I'm aware).
I'm currently looking at a 1080 or potentially 1080Ti if it's a good deal.
For example, there's this 1080 for £550 https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=08G-P4-6686-KR# but apparently it's been priced a bit lower previously https://i.imgur.com/y1yywg6.png and looking at other GPUs on price-tracking websites, I've missed some good sales.
I've seen some 1080Tis for around £650-660 but I'm not sure if they're good models e.g. (Galax KFA2 , Gigabyte Gaming OC Black). Obviously I'm not concerned about the base/boost clock, as they should all get roughly the same numbers when auto/manually overclocked, but the better power phasing, cooling, fan noise and such should mean that it has the potential to reach a higher OC.
Basically I'm not sure if I should just wait for a better deal or to see if AMD can pull their finger out or what, but eventually I'll have to buy something.
Thanks.
