Hey guys,

My current network setup consists of the following.

  • Virgin Media 160Mbps (Superhub 2 in Modem mode)
  • Asus RT-AC51U Router

Now this setup seems okay,But occasionally there will be the odd slowdown,as during the evening there are at least 3 of us using the network,Sometimes 4 at the same time,YouTube,Browsing,Gaming etc.

Looking at the Asus router control panel system status it shows between 83-85% of the routers ram is used up,And im not even gaming (obviously) at the time of making this post so who knows what it goes up to when in playing BF4,And the other 2-3 other users in my family are watching Youtube etc.

However CPU usage on the router doesnt really go up much at all,Im wondering if the routers lack of ram could be causing the slowdowns occasional?

Do you think a better specced Router with at least a Dual core CPU and more on-board Ram would be more ideal for my network setup and household usage?

I'd suspect a problem on Virgin's network rather than yours. If it is congestion on Virgin's network you could spend a lot of money and see zero improvement.

How are your clients connected? Wired, 2.4GHz wireless, 5GHz wireless, etc.

2 connections are wired.
1 connection is Wireless (N)
1 connection is Powerline Ethernet (Wired) but this isn't always used.
