Ok guys do you think its time for me to upgrade my E2160???.

my specks are

Mobo Gigabyte 965p-ds3

Ram 2 Gig of DDR2 800Mghz

Gfx Ati 4850 512Meg

Yeh, it depends. If you use it for a lot of modern gaming then yes, you should probably look at the E5200, E7300 or E8400 as a replacement for your cpu. Of course if your motherboard cannot support 45nm processors, then your looking at replacing that too...

Your video card should be fine for the latest games though.

If you don't game too much, and only surf the web and wordprocess then I suggest you leave your system alone. What you have is fine for these tasks. I have a friend with an E2180 and he constantly says how awesomely it performs (not that he's much of a gamer) so I can't imagine an E2160 being that far off.

I have a E2160 and it's fine for gaming. I've read a few reviews, and although CPUs like the E5200 are an improvement, they're not amazingly better. If you think you can sell your E2160 after buying an E5200 it's probably worth it because you'd only end up spending about 30-40 quid on the upgrade.

Edit: out of interest, what speed have you got your E2160 clocked to?

Is it lunch?

Nobody knows - it depends entirely on my appetite, time zone, time from breakfast and blood sugar levels. As I haven't informed anybody as to my particular situation and cirumstances, they can't make an objective or valid recommendation.

As the first reply queried: what is your computer used for? Gaming? If so, are the frame-rates dropping to levels which impact on your gaming experience?

Encoding? Are you spending far too much time waiting for your videos to reformat?

Rendering? Are you losing money because your box simply cannot churn out the pictures/animations fast enough?

Surfing the net? Are you streaming HD p- err, stuff, and is your computer struggling as a result?

Each particular problem has a particular solution, being any of: more RAM, better graphics card, more storage, faster CPU, more USB hubs, or finding a girlfriend.

Tell us your problem and we will attempt to solve it.

If the money is burning a hole in your pocket and you simply want to spend it and then inform us of how much you have - as a result - blown, then let me direct you to the following:

I have almost the same specs (and same questions), except an 8800GTS instead of an 4850. The CPU is clocked to 3GHz with an AC7, which is certainly possible on these boards. They also support most of the new 45nm CPUs, though many are listed as 'non-officlal' BIOS support under beta BIOS 14b.

3GHz seems to run most games OK, though my favourite poison is Armed Assault, with the framerate increasing on the few times I've ventured over 3GHz, so I think this is one game which benefit from more power (it is only single threaded though - Arma2 is slated to support multicore CPUs),

I've come to the conclusion it is down to one of the E8x00 cpus or a Q6600, both units being clocked - the max I've seen reported is 3.6GHz for the E8x00 and 3.1GHz for the Q6600. I agree with the first reply as I think the E5200 would only be worthwhile if you could clock it near to 4GHz.

its still fine...

at 3+ghz it holds its own against any stock dual core from Intel, so i wouldn't worry too much. Most games are graphically intensive anyways, so.

the cpu is overclocked to 3.1Ghz and i use it for a lot of gamin.
I like to run all my games as high as it will let me.
Plus iv been thinkin of upgradin it for awhile now

only have around £80 tho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming mean you use your computer for gaming and you've been thinking about upgrading it for a while?

For £80, you're not going to get much benefit out of a new CPU and you probably not be able to afford a second graphics card unless it's second-hand... and even this will depend on what resolution you play at.

Penultimately, you're only running with 2Gb of RAM so you might benefit from 2Gb more.

Finally, please make sure your punctuation and spelling is reasonably close to being understandable because it makes interpreting your requirements much easier.

If he has the Rev 3.3 DS3, the OP would also have support for the 1333 FSB CPUs, so opens up quite a few CPUs if they are within his budget of £80.
