Is it too hot for a router in the roof/loft?

I have a big steel beam above and below my bedroom and I want to put network cables through the ceiling as the wireless is hit and miss to if it works.

Could I put the modem/router (netgear dg834gt to be exact) in the roof/loft permanently?
It gets hot in their but it would be the easiest way by far to network a few bedrooms to it.

thanks

Define hot...

My Sky branded 834GT has a tendancy to overheat and lock up when the air temp is around 30C. Vertical mounting seems to help. Another option is to sling a network switch up there which will likely run cooler.

I had a Netgear router in the loft for about 5 years before it died, whether it was as a result of heat or another issue I don't know.

Just checked the netgear website for the dg834gt and it says operating temps 0c-40c.

It gets hot up there, especially when the central heating is on but I wouldn't say it was any worse than when I went on holiday which was about 32c.

Would you not be better keeping the router as close as possible to the phone socket and put a switch up in the loft to distribute the network to rooms?

My parents have all their infrastructure up in the loft, sitting practically on top of each other with no problems. 2 routers, 2 or 3 switches and a PABX phone system.

Never had any fall over, except the phone system but that was due to lightening :p
