Is it true, crossfire/sli is only useful

True - the graphics drivers need to support the game in question but you should find that most of the latest games do support it - the driver release should have details of all the games it supports in SLI/crossfire.

Yep most games from the last year or so at least have multi gpu support.

most games now adays will be able to run on multi GFX but older games will only use one

This. And to behonest if you've got modern day graphic cards you only really need one to run old games that dont support multi gpu's

WoW doesn't like SLI. But it is a 6? year old game.

I noticed from logging in in dalaran at a peaktime and seeing my FPS was 26.

I turned off SLI and it went up to 34.
