was that suppose to be confusing or has it just ended up been confusing without you knowing it?

looks like he's cut 3 or 4 different sections of wording from random threads

The CPU'S are speed binned for there systems only, not put back on sale.

Retail cpu's are fully boxed / sealed, OEM versions come in plain box.

If your building yourself and overclocking then you might be lucky and get a good chip, this is the same for all other competitors.

Sorry i rushed the text

Is it true OcUK use the best cpu's up for overclocked bundles leaving crappy cpus if purchased alone...

Scottib, 8 pack and gibbo went over this a while ago.

Under no circumstances are retail chips screened in any which way, they arrive on orders and go direct in to stock for public consumption.

Oem chips are purchased by two separate departments, gibbo buys for stock Oem sales, these are untouched and go direct into stock or lower spec bundles and systems (those with a very mild oc). Scottib/8 pack and the builds team order in their own oem chips, these are often selected from specific batches and are then binned to fit certain high oc bundles and systems.

If you want a good chip, don't bother with the lottery and buy the 4770k extreme 4.6 bundle, not only is the chip binned it is also delidded and liquid pro fitted for better temps while carrying a 2 year warranty.

pgi947 is true to what he said. If you want a good certain clocker, get that 4770K @ 4.6 (at least) deal. Yes costs a bit, but it worth the money.

I will add that, bought my 4820K in retail box from OCUK. Came sealed, and is working at 5Ghz without troubles, after figuring how X79 overclocking works.

(big thanks to 8Pack for his assistance on X79 overclocking)

So if i buy an oem 4770k, its going to be the same chance of being a decent chip as the retail version, albeit im not going to get the retail fan (which i dont want or need)?

As if thats the case, its a saving of a few quid for the same lottery chance of getting a decent clocker. In all honesty im only going to bother pumping mine to about 4.4 - 4.6 when i get it.

Bought a 4820K OEM from here, the thought that the better ones had been cherry picked for pre-built custom systems did cross my mind (I know atleast one competitor does this for a fact) but AFAIK its not something OcUK do and if they did they were extremely careful in cleaning it off - not a single sign of any 3rd party use and IHS was pristine without any marks other than from Intel's machining marks.
