Is it true that FarCry won't install on some cd/dvd drives?

I bought FarCry last week, recieved and tried to install it. It wouldn't install as as it kept throwing up error messages during installation. Can't for the life of me remember what the error code was but it was during the main installation. I tried ignoring the error message by clicking on retry but still wouldn't install.

My PC more than exceeds the recommended spec of the game so it's not a problem with that.

Any solutions.

My PC spec: AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1gb memory, 160gb hard drive, 6600gt agp, Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

You're thinking of Starforce ;)- No, FarCry doesn't use this.
Your first ports of call should be cleaning the disk itself and the drive, unless the errors were installshield errors of some sort? (I think these need an update from either installshield or MS, not sure atm)

Fao

I have 2 drives, one being a dvdrom drive and the other a DVD/CDRW drive. The installation will fail on both drives.

Leezer3 mentioned Windows installer (Installshield) whatever it's called, this was part of the error come to think about it.

Does Windows installer require updates and if so how do I get them?

Please note I have never had a problem installing anything else before.

Thanks all again.

We really need the specific error now :D
Installshield & Windows Installer are very different things ;) (FarCry uses Installshield)
Have a look through this page:
