Is it true that the Lumix TZ7 screen is doomed to crack?

I'm keen to purchase a compact with a longer zoom and in an ideal world i'd have the ricoh CX3 but it's a tad pricey. Sadly the CX2 has no HD video so It's obvious for me to go for the Panasonic Lumix TZ7.

However, I have read on several forums that the screen is highly likely to break, even under normal use. Are there any TZ7 users on this forum who can confirm this or reassure me that it's a few isolated cases?

Apparently Panasonic don't foot the repair bill so it could be a very expensive mistake!

Do you really need HD video? I don't see the point on a compact. You can't hold it steady and you don't get the DOF benefits you see with a DSLR over a handycam.

some sites I've seen offer a3 year warranty with this camera

but have been told its a cracking camera :D

I think after a day in the peak district yesterday I realised I want some sturdy quality that only Ricoh can offer.

Has anyone any experience with the CX2? I am slightly worried about the noise issues.

A bit late in the day, but mine has cracked :( Was being carried in it's case, in my pocket and I don't recall knocking it.

Going to try and repair it ......
