Hey all,

I was considering a 7800GS+ but someone at work has told me to hold off a few months as an agp x1900xt is on its way out.. any truth in it ?

Thanks,

Whoop

The last high end card from ATI was the x850XT/PE was it not? and thats almost 2 years old and from what it seems the last recent ones were X1600 Pro 512MB DDR2.
ATI's AGP cards that seem to come out now are low to mid range...

Seems very unlikely there will be an AGP X1900 XT, unless your colleague at work knows otherwise.

I wouldn't get the 7800 GS+ though either at it's current price. The X1800XT is £110 cheaper and just as good. Dunno what your current system is but that £110 will go a good way towards a new board and CPU, and selling your old bits should provide the rest.

Your friend is telling you porkies. As said; ATI have not bothered with AGP since the X800/X850 Series. Nvidia have, but also as said, it's cheaper and/or more logical in the long-run to just go PCI-E.

Even Apple's machines have gone PCI-E since the Quad G5 and the x1900xt PCI-E is in the Mac Pro. So it looks like no more high end AGP for either platform from ATI...

It can be more cost effective to go pci-e if you have a case and everything else :)

I am a small form factor fan and as such run a skt 939 shuttle with agp, I have no real urge to move to pci-e unless they do a cheap 939 pci-e shuttle someone knows of? It would be quite a bit more than a new mobo/case/psu/gfx option I think but feel free to spec me up all.

Whoop :)

There are plenty of micro-AXT motherboards that support PCI-E, even socket 754 ones. :)

They're not? Silly me. :D

Nah - mATX boards have around 3 or 4 PCI/PCIe/AGP slots total, while a shuttle has 2. There is a name for the shuttle board format, but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

I have heard a few rumours of an X1900 series AGP card but found no evidence to support it.
Maybe the X1950Pro, but i wouldnt expect the X1900XTX/ X1950XTX cards to be AGP.
