Is it worth a Ram upgrade?

My current PC is an Intel Q6600 and has 4GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Ram installed. I am going to be installing Windows 7 in the next couple of weeks and I use my PC for web development, some light video editing using Adobe Premiere and image editing using Adobe Photoshop.

I was just wondering if it would be worth upgrading my Ram. If I do, would it be worth replacing my current ram too and go for PC2-8500 or stick with the PC2-6400 and buy more 6400 ram?

If it were me I would stick with the current 6400 and add to that making it 8GB if you can. Probably overkill as they say but you would have some room to play with when using Adobe programs.

PC8500 is only really 6400 tested and guaranteed to run at higher frequency and voltage. It is effectively just premium DDR2 6400 sticks.

do you have ur q6600 over clocked as when i try running 8gb ram with mine i cannot get a good oc compared to results with 4gb

Imo DDR2 is only going to go up in price fro now on, I would get some while it's still at a decent price.

I'm seriously considering doing this myself.

Hi,

I want to do the same and upgrade my RAM when I will be installing Windows 7, I currently have 2GB of Corsair XMS DDR2 PC2-6400 on a gigabyte motherboard and E8200 Wolfdale clocked P35 processor. and I was wanting to upgrade to 6GB or 8GB. But I was wondering, could I upgrade to DDR3, do any of you guys know if I can do this
