Is it worth buying an overclocked version?

Looking at the EVGA 1660 for £200. Notice they do an overclocked version for £210, 1830Mhz boost speed instead of 1785Mhz.

Is it worth paying the extra or is it simply the case the the stock one will overclock to that any way?

And will I even see much anyway - doing 1080P single monitor gaming.

Okay it’s only £10, but £10 is £10 :)

Cheers,

Nigel

Why do you say that? Won’t notice the difference, or the stock will overclock to that easily as it is only a mild uplift.

Stock will (almost) always overclock to the higher priced ones, unless it's some crazy super limited special case uber edition.

Also, you won't notice the difference.

For a tenner I'd buy the OC model, simply because it sounds better when it comes time to sell it on. If it's £25, £30 or more than no I'd grab the base model.

OC for sure. Especially for an extra tenner. I've not looked at the cards in question but generally speaking, OC models can have a better cooler, higher binned silicon and there are usually no downsides.

Cooler looks the same. I suspect they have just picked some, overclocked and if stable sell them as OC models. I doubt they do any binning as such, it is only a 45MHz boost, 2.5%.

Unlike the higher end Turing chips, Nvidia aren't selling pre-binned chips to AIB partners for a premium. They're all the same and all will be capable of the mild factory overclock, so it's unlikely to say anything about their maximum potential or anything else. You're just paying for the factory overclock. With the higher end cards, the extra also gets you a superior, pre-binned GPU though.

Pretty sure ive seen 1660Ti's for not much more. Wouldn't bother with a 1660 for £200 or more.

Cheapest 1660Ti I have seen is £260 so £60 more than a stock 1660, not sure that is worth it for me.

Also my case is an HTPC type so has limited height and length (not so much the length). But cards that protrude a fair amount above the top of the mounting bracket won’t fit. Plenty of cards around but it means that sometimes when I see a good deal (like the gigabyte 1060 at the moment) it won’t fit.

You stick to your guns. He shouldn't be making plans for you, he only wants what's best for you... like you need a helping hand?

If you say you're happy, then you must be happy.

You are mistaken, I'm after a GTX not an XTC :)

UPDATE - Well I’ve ordered a new GPU, but I did go for a 1660Ti in the end as I managed to pick up a Gigabyte 1660Ti Windforce for £225.
