Is it worth changing a X800GTO2 for X1800XT?

Hi

I’ve been avoiding looking on here for a while now, as I just get the urge to buy, buy buy!!

The latest temptation is the pricing of the Ati cards at the moment that looks too good to miss. So, the question is would it make much sense to change my unlocked X800gto2 to an X1800XT considering that I play mostly FPS (HL2, BF2, FEAR etc) on a 17” LCD at 1280 x 1024?

So, if it is worth doing, which is the one to go for? I’ve been happy with my Sapphire card so far, but which is the recommended one?

Sorry if this has been asked a few times before, but I couldn't find any comparisons between the X800gto2 and the X1800XT....

Thanks again

Ben

In the games you play you are looking at at least double the performance when graphics limited - like in FEAR. Go for it mate its a huge upgrade. :)

That much of a difference? Everything runs well at the moment, but the extra eye candy is always tempting..

The only thing holding me back is the lack of decent new FPS games, when's the HL2 expansion due now? Christmas? Will Godfather be any good? etc :D

Cheers

Just had another thought (after looking at other threads today) - will my psu be up to the task of running an X1800XT, does it need much more power than a Sapphire X800GTO2?

It's also running a 120gb seagate HD, external USB Lacie 250gb HD, DVD-RW drive 4 fans (plus the CPU cooler & GFX fan) etc...

Thanks again.

Right, that does it, I just need to sell my X800gto2 sharpish & get a new one ordered :D

Just one last question, is there a big difference between the 256 and 512 versions and is any one card better than the others? That was two questions. Sorry.

Ta :)

The 512mb only makes a difference at resolutions above 1280x1024, the higher you go, the more frames it pulls ahead, at resolutions like 1024x768 the 256mb is actually faster, but the 512mb will also help out in the AA/AF dept.

All the cards are the same, the only differences are the pics on the coolers, and what software you get. :)

Cool, thanks for the help everyone :)
